Umama Nowrose Ittela is  a development worker and a veteran marketing & communication specialist working for last 13 years in Bangladesh & abroad. She has successful campaigns and launched brands like Banglalink Desh & BBC Janala which got awarded by global entities. She is an expert in behavior change communications & also a trained social media marketing specialist. Her other expertise are project management, research & multimedia production. She is the only daughter of Ali Asgar Khokon, Music Director of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy & a renowned composer and musician of Bangladesh. He mother Syeda Amatul Fatema is an interior decoration designer, aparell design expert & a retired kindergarden teacher.

Professional Background

She has started her professional career in 2000 with Ekushey Television (ETV), which was the first & only private terrestrial channel in Bangladesh as Researcher and Newscaster. Later she worked for UNICEF, BCCP (Bangladesh Centre for Communication Program), and many other development organizations as Executive Strategist and Consultant. After years of experience in development sector, she shifted her career in commercial market portfolio by joining Interspeed Advertising Ltd (the then affiliate of Ogilvy & Mather in Bangladesh) in 2006  as Director, Media & PR. She was the successful chief of the largest media account in Bangladesh with three Telecom, two international FMCG, two home appliance, an international IT company, a land developer and many other local companies. In 2009 she joined BBC World Service Trust, Bangladesh as Head of Marketing & Communications and worked for many successful outputs like BBC Janala, BBC Buzz & BBC Biswaash for English In Action Project worldwide &  BBC Sanglap for better governance in Bangladesh . She worked in many qualitative and quantitative research projects as mentor, team leader or strategic consultant for Bangladesh government and private sector. In 2012, she worked as Communication Consultant for Bangladesh Government to implement Digital World Conference, a global ICT summit under the ministry of Information Communications Technology. Recently, she is working as Communication Expert in UNDP  Bangladesh for Access to Information Programme based in Prime Minister’s Office under Cabinet Division.

Performing Arts 

As a dancer, she has accomplished 14 years of training in classical form called Kathhak from Shibli Mohammed since 1987. She has also learned traditional folk Varat Natyam & basic Monipuri from different veteran artists in Bangladesh. She is a 6 year course graduate from Shurangama Nrityakala Academy in Bangladesh on 1998. She has also attended diploma courses of Manipuri in Shantiniketan. Besides, she has performed in numerous national and global stage shows, television programs & festivals. She has represented Bangladesh Dance in China, Turkey & India as performer & choreographer of national cultural delegation team to international festivals & competitions. She performed & choreographed through her dance company called Wizards Performing Arts for a couple of years before it was called off. She aspires to establish a research center & performing arts academy for innovative projects on Dance and develop Indo-Bengal cultural affluence institutionally.

Besides, she was also a television drama artiste for a brief period. Notable, she played lead roles in 130 episode mega serial “Share Tin Tola”, of Afsana Mimi for Channel i,  26 episode “Enechi Shurjer Hashi” of Giashuddin Selim for BTV & NTV, single episode “Nishikonna” of M Zafar Iqbal directed by Ringo & Indrani Halder for NTV.


She is a mention-able history & archaeology enthusiast, travel maniac, movie fan, loves reading & writing, a believer of fate & an insane mom. She can forgive easily & really quick, but will never forget! She loves to learn from my life…that’s her favorite game. Proud to  know how to cherish good things and be happy!
